How to stop a cantilever parasol from falling over

Cantilever parasols can be the finishing touch to a garden or patio area. So it’s important to know how to use them safely. A parasol can transform your garden they’re perfect for protecting you from the sun. Your garden is a place for relaxation, outdoor cooking, catching up with friends, and much more. The last thing you want to be worrying about is if your cantilever parasol is stable enough!

In this blog, we’ll discuss the importance of choosing the correct parasol base and the features of your parasol that help it stay upright.

What base should I use?

Most parasols are sold with a base, so you know you’re getting the right base for your parasol. The majority of our parasols come with a solid granite base which helps keep the parasol stable and upright. We also offer parasols with a 90kg granite wheeled base, if you want to be able to move your parasol around your garden then this is the one for you! These are the best type of bases as the weight means you know it won’t budge easily. This base is not only sturdy and dependable but it’s functional, the wheels give you more flexibility than a regular base.

Another base that some of our parasols come with is a 100kg granite base, this type of base can be found on Bramblecrest parasols. This base is comprised of four granite triangles, each one weighing 25kg. Once this base is in place you can relax knowing that you have the best possible base for your parasol. To put the parasol base together the triangles need to be placed in the frame of the base, but don’t worry we can help you with that if you need it!

Why is my parasol pole wobbling?

On a windy day you might notice that your parasol seems to be swaying, don’t worry this is completely normal. The parasol needs to sway to help reduce the wind pressure on the parasol, if the parasol didn’t then it is more likely to fall or even snap! However, if the wind is too strong we would recommend that you close the parasol. Having the correct base will also help prevent any excessive movement in the wind.

Why does my parasol have air vents?

Parasols have air vents to help keep them stable, they allow any air to escape through and help keep your canopy in place. This doesn’t mean they’ll let any rain in either as the layers overlap to keep you dry in any sudden rain. Without the vent, your parasol would be more likely to fall over in a sudden gust of wind. In Summer it also means the hot air can escape through the top of the parasol, making sure that cooler air can keep flowing through.

Keeping your parasol closed

Now the chances are that you probably already do this but we have to mention it! When you’re not using your parasol always keep it closed. The weather can change at any time, you never know when the wind could pick up. So always closing the parasol stops you from waking up and finding it has fallen over during the night.

If you love sitting outside then a parasol can enhance your experience but it is important to have the right one for you and know what you need. The most essential accessory to have in order to keep your parasol from falling over is a heavy-duty base. A heavy and sturdy base provides maximum support to your garden umbrella. Those that are made up of granite are the best ones to use. Another thing to mention is that if you have a parasol cover, use it! This will not only help keep the canopy clean but it will prolong the life of your cantilever parasol.
