Conservatory furniture is made using long-lasting materials that require next to no maintenance. The material used to create our furniture is a natural product called cane, this material grows extremely quickly and supports the local environment.
Quality Furniture
Wicker conservatory furniture is manufactured to the highest standards and undergoes rigorous testing to ensure this. The cane is manipulated into the shape of our furniture frames and has a hand-crafted finish.
All cushions are manufactured here in Britain to guarantee that your cushions are comfortable and finished to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Fabrics make your furniture unique and allow you to add your own personal style to your conservatory furniture. Cane Industries and Desser have their own unique fabrics for you to choose from and we always have the fabric books on display in our showrooms.
Choosing the right fabric can be difficult as there are so many different fabrics to choose from. To help you choose it is important to think about your conservatory, any existing furniture, accessories and colour schemes. Doing this can help you narrow down your fabric choices.
Care & Maintenance
Wicker furniture is really easy to look after and if done properly it can last a long time. To clean the frame you should use a dry soft brush or a vacuum cleaner on a low setting. If you have any tricky grooves you can use a dry toothbrush to help remove any dust.
If you want to do a deeper clean you can fill a bucket with warm soapy water and use the bubbles to gently remove any grime. Then gently pat down the frame to make sure all the moisture is absorbed. Desser recommends doing it this way because using too much water can damage the frame over time.
If you are placing your wicker conservatory furniture in a conservatory, these are prone to being a sun trap. Using blinds can help protect your cushions from sun exposure and increase the lifespan of your fabric. It is important to routinely flip your cushions to reduce any fading that naturally occurs is evenly spread. Likewise, if you use one cushion more than the other you should flip that one more often.
Cushion care is extremely important and you should always read the manufacturer’s care instructions. Care instructions can be different depending on the fabric and manufacturer, if you’re unsure just contact us and we will answer your questions.
Choosing Sustainable Materials
Wicker is a raw natural material that grows in the rainforest in South East Asia, it is one of the fastest-growing tropical hardwood trees. Wicker is ready to be harvested within 2-3 years - compared to other woods that need 20-30 years. This is because the wicker plant grows incredibly fast, on average it grows around 2cm per day and can renew itself in as little as 5 years.
Wicker is a creeper plant, which means that it wraps around other trees and plants. This encourages the local community to preserve the forest. Wicker trees also support the local wildlife and ecosystem as well as create jobs for the local community. Wicker tends to grow on flood plains, this land is generally forgotten about but this plant growing creates an opportunity for a rich biosphere.
